India Makes its Mark on the World Wellness Weekend

India will build its strongest-ever presence for the 10th World Wellness Weekend on 18-20 September 2026, with 525+ confirmed properties across the country.

Wellness is increasingly moving beyond an individual pursuit to become a broader cultural and social conversation. As the global wellness landscape continues to expand, India is bringing its own longstanding traditions and contemporary hospitality sector into sharper focus, evident as the country takes part in the 10th edition of World Wellness Weekend (WWW) with more than 525 confirmed properties.

Taking place from 18–20 September 2026 across 190 countries, the landmark edition marks the largest-ever Indian participation in the initiative. The participating properties span luxury hotels and resorts, boutique wellness retreats, Ayurveda institutions and, notably, institutional and government-linked partners making their way into the programme for the first time.

World Wellness Weekend

The World Wellness Weekend is a global, non-profit wellness activation designed to encourage meaningful behavioural change through accessible wellness activities. Its programming is built around five pillars: Sleep & Creativity, Nutrition & Immunity, Movement & Vitality, Mindfulness & Serenity, and Purpose & Solidarity. The initiative now reaches 190 countries, with thousands of participating venues around the world. Its most recent edition generated more than 20 million media views and included 11,000 participating venues globally.

For its anniversary edition, India’s participation reflects both the scale of its hospitality industry and the depth of its existing wellness ecosystem. Rather than being limited to luxury hotels and retreats, WWW 2026 brings together established wellness institutions, Ayurveda networks and public-sector organisations, creating a wider representation of how wellness is understood and practised in the country.

A Milestone for India

The numbers mark a significant step forward. India ranked fifth globally in the 2025 edition of World Wellness Weekend. This year, the country is positioned to make a stronger push towards the top of the global rankings. With growing interest outside the hospitality sector, WWW India is engaged in outreach with the Ministry of AYUSH at both the central and Maharashtra levels, as well as the D Y Patil Group. While formal letters of endorsement are still in process, the growing institutional interest reflects a broader alignment between the initiative and India’s Heal in India positioning around traditional and holistic wellness.

Participants from India

The breadth of participation brings together some of the country's most recognisable names in hospitality and wellness.

Among the confirmed resorts and retreats are properties of Shangri-La, Fairmont, alongside OMASRA, Kairali — The Ayurvedic Village, Somatheram, SwaSwara by CGH Earth, Aum Wellness, Samoda Spa, Tr? Wellness Resort, Vana by Six Senses, Dharana at Shillim, Kshemavana, Atmantan, Swastik Luxury Wellbeing Sanctuary and Della Resort.

The hotel sector is represented on an even larger scale. Confirmed participants include The Lodhi, The Imperial, Oberoi, Tree of Life Resort, The St. Regis Mumbai, The Leela with 14 properties, Hyatt Hotels in Mumbai and Delhi, ITC Hotels Mumbai, Taj Hotels/IHCL with 90 properties, Meghavi Wellness with seven locations, Taj J Wellness Circle properties and Sofitel Mumbai BKC.

The institutional and Ayurveda network adds another dimension to this year's participation. Madhavbaug's 350 properties and MTDC's 30+ centres form a substantial part of the 380+ confirmed properties in this category, demonstrating how the initiative has expanded beyond individual luxury properties to include larger wellness networks.

Conclusion

India's strongest-ever showing at World Wellness Weekend arrives at a moment when wellness is becoming increasingly expansive in both definition and practice. The participation of luxury hotels and retreats alongside Ayurvedic institutions and larger public and institutional networks reflects a landscape that is no longer confined to the spa or the retreat—it encompasses movement, nutrition, mindfulness, sleep, community and purpose.

For Reena Sheth, World Wellness Weekend Ambassador for India & Asia Pacific and Founder & Chief Wellness Strategist at Gaiia, the development is the result of sustained engagement across the sector. “What began as steady, conversation-by-conversation outreach has grown into a truly formidable national presence,” she says, pointing to India’s connection with wellness across both its luxury hospitality sector and its centuries-old Ayurvedic traditions.
