Udaipur through a New Lens at the Udaipur Marriott Hotel

Marriott International arrives in Udaipur, and we were there to try it first.

Having visited Udaipur a couple of times before, I was eager to return to the beautiful City of Lakes- but experience it differently this time. And what better way to bring a different flair to a familiar destination than by checking into one of its newest properties?

The Udaipur Marriott Hotel, close to Fateh Sagar Lake and just 30 minutes from the airport, became the perfect choice. I arrived during the magical monsoon season, which just brought a lovely sheen over the hotel’s regal façade.

As I stepped out of the car, live folk music played at the gate, and a welcome drink was placed in my hand the moment I entered, enough to make the little princess in me feel giddy with delight. While completing the check-in formalities, I took in the view of the reception area which was unlike any I’d seen before. Grand, modern, and filled with natural light, it felt like the perfect prelude to a royal stay.

The Royal Design Elements

The hotel is thoughtfully designed with all modern elements with a touch of Mewar charm. It proudly showcases 47 architectural arches, inspired by the iconic City Palace of Udaipur which presents a subtle nod to the city’s royal heritage.

I couldn’t help but admire the hand-painted Pichwai-style motifs, Mewar-style arches, traditional jharokhas, and intricately carved chajjas all around me. From the art on fabric panels inside the elevators to the hand-painted Shikayat Blue murals and the Khanch-style mosaic artwork with its broken tile patterns narrating timeless stories, every corner felt culturally rich.

The coziest part of my room was the cushion seat by the window, where I spent quiet moments watching raindrops trickle down the glass. But for the best panoramic view of the Aravallis, I made my way to the terrace. It is here where you can also soak in the scenery even while being in the rooftop pool.

And speaking of regal architecture, one cannot miss the sweeping staircase crowned with a majestic chandelier. It spirals down to reveal Udaipur’s largest indoor and outdoor event venue, spanning a massive 85,000 sq. ft! With a pillarless ballroom adjacent to a dedicated bridal suite and several pre-function venues, I could envision how grand the weddings will be.

Flavourful Cuisine

Udaipur Marriott Hotel has quickly become one of my favourite places to dine in Udaipur; where I have dined through so many unique culinary fusions in my plate. The absolute standout was a one-of-a-kind Lebanese x Rajasthani Lavash Tray at Okra, served with an array of flavourful dips. Another must-try is their signature Mewari Maharaja Thali, a regal experience curated entirely with in-house ingredients and crafted by a local Rajasthani chef. Rich in authentic flavours, every bite stayed true to its traditional roots. Adding a sweet European touch to the experience is their charming in-house bakery, Udaipur Baking Co. I ordered the tiramisu, and I’m not even embarrassed to admit I devoured it in a jiffy.

For a relaxed evening or a post-dinner nightcap, the Opal Lounge is perfect for unwinding over handcrafted cocktails. And if you love dining with a view, keep an eye out for their upcoming rooftop restaurant, which promises stunning views of the Aravallis paired with grilled food.

Wellness

Rejuvenation takes centre stage at Quan Spa, where a harmonious blend of Ayurvedic wisdom and contemporary therapies awaits. The wellness offerings go beyond the treatment room as the property also houses rooftop yoga and sound healing sessions to scenic nature walks along the serene Fateh Sagar Lake.

For those looking to stay active, there’s a state-of-the-art fitness centre, along with indoor recreational games and a vibrant Kids Club to keep little ones engaged. You can also enjoy on-property salon services, perfect for a touch of grooming or pampering during their stay.

Experiences

I took a tour of all the popular landmarks in Udaipur, and the hotel’s impeccable service made everything effortlessly accessible and seamless. I truly enjoyed the city without any of the usual travel hassles. Udaipur Marriott Hotel can curate special moments for you like sunset high teas, soul-soothing wellness rituals, and guided heritage walks. From private boat rides on Fateh Sagar Lake and guided photography tours to leisurely high tea sessions with panoramic views, each activity is crafted to deepen your connection with the rich heritage of our country.
