Healing Resonance: Exploring the Waves of Sound Therapy

Whenever I have seen the majestic sound healing bowls shining in rustic bronze colour, with mantras all over, it has always evoked a deep sense of stillness and which whispers the promise of profound healing.

Research has shown that the sounds from singing bowls can create a frequency known as a binaural beat, which can help synchronise brain waves and promote mental clarity and relaxation. Given the fascination with mind-body-consciousness medicine and holistic living, the resurgence of sound therapy comes as no surprise. As people seek deeper connections and natural remedies, sound therapy's modern-day revival stands as a testament to the enduring power of ancient wisdom in our contemporary quest for wellness. It was this quest which brought me to Aheli Spa at Roseate House, Aerocity to experience the latest addition to their spa menu- Sound Therapy.

Stepping into the spa felt like inhaling a breath of fresh air, a seamless blend of the outside world brought indoors. The reception area featured a serene waterbody flowing gracefully through its centre, while a transparent roof bathed the space in abundant sunlight. Here, I met the sweetest person ever, Devika, the spa director at Aheli. With a warm smile, she introduced me to sound therapy and guided me to my spa room.

The Sound Therapy began with the therapist striking the sound bowl with a mallet, rubbing the rim with a stick which created a powerful sound and vibrations strong enough to be felt within my body. The sound healing bowls used here are handmade from a mixture of five metals and crafted by a special community in India who excel in this art.

The therapist used different sizes of sound bowls to strike near my head, on both the left and right side. Whenever she rang the large bowl, I could listen to a hint of the sound of Om. It culminates with the gentle chiming of the tingsha Bell, known for reducing mental stress and anxiety. Slowly, she starts ringing different sizes of bowl towards the lower part of my body. Eventually, she puts the bowl on my stomach and rings it, sending vibrations in my entire body, in all directions. Devika explained that placing bowls on the stomach yields numerous health benefits, particularly for those dealing with digestion issues and stomach problems. The divine healing vibrations emitted by the singing bowl promote the elimination of toxins and activate the body's self-healing mechanism. The same process is repeated when I am laying on my back, as the vibrations of singing bowls on the back aim to clear energetic blockages, balance chakras, and alleviate back pain.

With each strike and gliding of the bowl, I could feel waves of vibrations on my body. It encouraged the brain to move into deep Alpha, Theta and Delta frequencies, inducing a receptive, meditative state. The vibrations create ripples in my body’s waters and flow through our tissues and organs, which resonate into the cellular memory, releasing physical, mental, emotional and karmic toxins.

After a good 40-50 minutes of the therapy, my therapist gave me a head massage, relaxing me even more into the quietude. I finished my spa sojourn in a jacuzzi, within my room, and took a quick shower.

I stepped out of my spa room, the lingering waves of melody, harmonics, and notes from the sound healing bowls resonating deeply within me. I felt utterly relaxed, a significant reduction in stress allowing me to shed all negativity from my mind and body. The sound therapy had an immediate and profound impact, leaving me feeling rejuvenated and at peace, along with synchronised brain waves for mental clarity.
