In conversation with Anjali Patel Mehta, the Founder, Designer & Creative Director of Verandah, on how her label is revolutionising Indian resortwear globally.
With just two episodes in The White Lotus Season 3, it has already grabbed our attention in more ways than one. Whether it is the gripping storyline, the scandalous lives of the characters, or the exquisite destinations and hotels, every detail adds a new layer to obsess over. But beyond the drama and breathtaking destinations, the latest talking point is the show’s beautiful resortwear fashion. Whether it’s Jennifer Coolidge’s flowing kaftans or Simona Tabasco and Beatrice Grannò’s Dior swimsuits and Prada sunglasses, the wardrobe is as indulgent as the settings.
But what really caught our eye this season were the luxurious kaftans from Indian resortwear label Verandah. We got into a conversation with Anjali Patel Mehta, the founder of Verandah, to know more about how it all came together, the impact shows make on fashion and what it means for the brand ahead...
1. How did Verandah make its way into the world of The White Lotus Season 3?
The incredibly talented costume designer, Alex Bovaird, personally handpicked global designers whose pieces fit seamlessly into the world of The White Lotus, Verandah, being one of them. We had been in touch with her since the filming of Season 2, and though I missed that opportunity, she was kind enough to reach out again for Season 3. It was an effortless process, and from LA to Thailand, everything flowed seamlessly. Seeing Verandah represented in such a cultural phenomenon is beyond exciting for us as a brand.
2. Was there any brief given to you while sending the collections? And how was it working with Alex Bovaird?
There wasn’t a rigid brief—Alex had a clear vision of what she needed, and she gravitated toward designs that aligned naturally with the show’s aesthetic. It was amazing to see Verandah’s pieces selected without any modifications, which speaks volumes about our design philosophy. Working with Alex was an absolute pleasure—she has a brilliant way of using fashion as a storytelling tool, and her attention to detail is impeccable.
3. While we know that you can’t reveal everything just yet, the Sundowner Kaftan was spotted in the trailer. Could you share some insights on that piece?
The Sundowner Kaftan is a statement piece that embodies effortless luxury and storytelling through print. It’s vibrant, bold, and fluid—perfect for the show’s sun-soaked, indulgent setting. Like all Verandah pieces, it’s rooted in artistry, designed with an eye for movement, and crafted using sustainable materials. Seeing it in the trailer was a surreal moment, and I can’t wait to see how it plays into the narrative of the season!
4. How important is sustainability to Verandah, and what initiatives has the brand implemented?
Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at Verandah. Our designs are crafted using responsible materials, eco-friendly fabrications, and a zero-waste approach, ensuring each piece is as mindful as it is luxurious. We work closely with artisans to preserve traditional techniques while keeping our carbon footprint minimal. To us, true luxury is about longevity, craftsmanship, and a deep respect for the environment.
5. What is your creative process like when ideating for new designs? Where do you draw inspiration from?
My creative process is deeply rooted in storytelling. I draw inspiration from art, travel, nature, and architecture—each collection is a visual journey that captures a specific mood or experience. I love exploring intricate prints, fluid silhouettes, and handcrafted details that bring a sense of effortless elegance to resort dressing. The goal is always to create pieces that feel transportive, timeless, and emotionally resonant.
6. Apart from the scandal, drama, and intense storyline, the series has also been popular for its vacation dressing, particularly resort wear. What role does fashion play in defining a character and the storyline?
Fashion in The White Lotus is an unspoken character in itself—it adds layers to the narrative, offering insight into personality, social dynamics, and even power play. Alex Bovaird has done an incredible job of curating looks that reflect each character’s journey, and resort wear, in particular, plays into the show’s escapist yet thought-provoking themes. The way a kaftan flows or a print catches the light—it all adds to the storytelling in a way that’s both subtle and impactful.
7. With The White Lotus having such a massive international following, how do you see the organic placement of Verandah’s designs elevating the brand’s presence globally?
Being part of The White Lotus is an incredible milestone for Verandah. Our brand is already present in over 100 luxury destinations, from Four Seasons in Bora Bora to Eden Rock in St. Barths, so this feature further cements our place in the world of luxury resort wear. The show has redefined luxury travel dressing, and this moment allows us to connect with a discerning global audience that values effortless, conscious fashion with a sense of wanderlust.
8. Lastly, which character are you most excited to see this season, and why?
Each season of The White Lotus brings such layered, intriguing characters. I’m excited to see how Natasha Rothwell’s character evolves along with Patravadi Mejudhon, who adds a fresh dynamic, and I can’t wait to see how her character fits into the show’s intricate storytelling. And, of course, I’m most excited to spot more of Verandah’s designs!
