“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women's Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.
Pearl Sanga is the Director of Della Group. She has played a management role in the conceptualisation, ideation & strategic implementation of many of the businesses under Della.
What is your wellness philosophy?
My wellness philosophy is moderation. Moderation in exercising, moderation in drinking moderation in eating moderation in healthy foods, moderation in going out, moderation and sleeping.
I firmly believe if a human being balances itself and understands what moderation means and implements in real life, that's the healthiest life, emotionally, mentally and physically you can balance.Your success mantra?
Success to me means a life of significance, not a life of success. And that's the motto our company chairman has given us: A life of success to a life of significance via the medium of Della Leaders Club, which is the World's First Business Platform. For me, success means how many human lives I've touched or we have touched! So for me, success means the number of lives I have touched, the number of women's lives and the women empowerment programs I have run I have been instrumental to mentor, help or support as many girls and women as I can or could have possibly done within our business and realm of hospitality or in the business and realm of human resource to manage gender equality and balance and help and support women in workplaces.
A lesson you learned from making a mistake?
There are lots and lots of mistakes I've made in my life right from my early days where I would be throwing my temperament around on people across, where I would be having my ego far supersede my learning abilities. Today, after 17 years of working in an organization, I have realized what a leader and leadership qualities mean, A good leader is supposed to be humble. A good leader is supposed to be vulnerable. Vulnerability should not interfere with the egocentric nature of humanity. I firmly believe I should be a role model to the rest of the women in our organization and people in society by and large, even within the community.
Any piece of advice for all the women out there?
Go women go, sky's the limit that you can achieve and touch. There is nothing stopping you from your own belief system and conditioning that you received from your childhood. Break this conditioning, you have unlimited power, you have the strength of Ma Durga. You have the ability of Ma Saraswati and you can deliver phenomenal results, be it in the physical world, be it in the emotional world or be it in any form that you acquire or choose to acquire, be it a woman in the workplace or be it a woman at home. My advice is do not let your mental energies bound you within the boundaries of your capabilities that you have been conditioned to believe, break the myth, go out and achieve. Go Women Go!
What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?
I don't believe, I'm at doyenne, I believe I'm taking my baby steps towards success. I believe there is a lot more for me to achieve personally and me to achieve as a leader organizationally, this is only the beginning of my journey. It's been 17 years in this organization. We lead a team of 2000 employees across our group companies. I will be super happy and proud when this becomes a figure of 20,000 employees that we have within our organization on our payroll, that will be the measure of my success. And when I lead the people and they look up to me as a role model.
