Celebrating the Doyenne: Bindu Subramaniam

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women's Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Bindu Subramaniam is a singer, songwriter, and Co-Founder and CEO of SaPa, she co-founded the SaPa in Schools program with her brother Ambi Subramaniam. She strongly believes that music is more than a feel-good element; it is a transformational tool that should be made available to every child.

What is your wellness philosophy?

Self-care isn't just about taking a spa day or cooking your favourite meal (although those are great things to enjoy). It's about consistently prioritising your mental health and creating a routine that you enjoy.

Your success mantra?

I live by two major philosophies. First, there is no substitute for hard work and passion. Second, we all win through the power of collaboration, not competition.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

Don't box yourself into one "correct" career path. Things overlap in such interesting ways that you should pursue everything you enjoy without worrying about where it will go from there.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

Build communities of other women, and keep uplifting each other. We are each other's biggest cheerleaders, and we can all use a reminder to stay confident and believe in the power of what we have to offer.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

First, thank you for the title! Second, my biggest pride as an entrepreneur and educator is the family of musicians, teachers, and administrators we've built at SaPa. Everyone respects each other's work, takes complete ownership over what they do, and look out for ways to come together and work towards a larger vision.
