The Art of Tailoring : Understanding What the Modern Man Wants

That’s Haute!

In a time when fast fashion rules the market and trends shift quickly, genuine luxury is found in uniqueness, craftsmanship, and accuracy. The art of tailoring is not just about making clothes—it’s about shaping confidence, elevating personal style, and preserving heritage while embracing modernity.

I see tailoring as a language that expresses heritage and change, rigidity and fluidity. Every stitch, seam, and contour in this art form is deliberate and made to fit a man's body while also reflecting his personality. The modern man looks for a balance between comfort and sophistication rather than having to pick between the two. He respects clothing that defines fashion rather than merely following it, cherishes details, and recognises the power of a well-fitting item.

This knowledge is at the core of my design philosophy. I've always thought of tailoring as a fusion of creativity and discipline because I grew up surrounded by materials and exquisite craftsmanship. My first introduction to the transformational power of fabric was at my great-grandfather's famous tweed business in Mussoorie. This tradition is still carried on at Sarab Khanijou today in every item of clothing we make, whether it's a structured bandhgala, a contemporary linen suit, or a smartly tailored tuxedo.

When done correctly, tailoring is a kind of understated luxury. It commands attention rather than demanding it.  It's in how a jacket moves with the wearer rather than against him, how a lapel rests perfectly, or how a pair of trousers falls naturally. The essence of contemporary menswear is clothing that is worn and experienced.

As the future of fashion continues to evolve, I see Indian couture taking its rightful place on the global stage as a classic manifestation of elegance and creativity. True style is fundamentally about intention rather than excess. Furthermore, I have remained steadfast in my goal as a designer: to make clothes that appeal to the man wearing them as well as fit his body. Because in the end, tailoring is not just about looking good—it’s about feeling unmistakably, unapologetically yourself.
