1. What makes an apparel a Suneet Varma couture piece?
Suneet Varma: Essentially, something that is delicate, that is sexy and that is forever!
2. Can you tell us a bit about the collaboration with Lee?
Suneet Varma: I’ve always been very inspired by denim. I started my career with denim 30 years ago and my first job was in Ahmedabad in a denim factory. So I’ve always loved denim, and I love what you can do with denim. You can sculpt it, you can shear it, you can paint it, you can over-dye it, you can wash it in multiple ways and you can do lots of different things with it. When this opportunity came along, I think they were looking for somebody with very similar handwriting to mine, which is, it should be couture, it should be feminine, it should be sexy, and it should be young. And I think they decided that I was the right person to collaborate, and I actually jumped at the opportunity.

4. A work that is super close to your heart, and why?
Suneet Varma: I’m not one of those people who sits on his laurels, so for me, when something is done its done and I’m already thinking about the next project. However, there’s one achievement that holds a special place in my heart—the Suneet Varma breast plate, my first collection from ’91. It graced the cover of India Today, was featured in numerous international magazines, and was also worn by almost every Bollywood star.
