Sonic Hues: 4 Sounds That Help You Sleep

Discover the rainbow of sound.

If you’re having trouble sleeping, you’re definitely not alone. A home without a routine or schedule, many people have trouble falling asleep or sleeping at all! But there’s one little thing that might actually change your sleep for good – color noises.

WHAT ARE COLOR NOISES?

Noises are specified colors on the basis of their energy distributed over different frequencies, or simply, the speed of sound. Primarily, there have been three different kinds of sonic hues explored with evidence, relaying they help one sleep better and reduce the chances of breaking sleep. Here are some:

WHITE NOISE

Over the years, white noise has been proven to boost concentration, improve focus and memory, as well as dramatically aid sleep. White noise is naturally found in daily life like the sound of rain, rustling of leaves, footsteps on grave, and whirling of fan. The frequency of white sound is in the audible range – 20 Hertz to 20,000 Hertz. Listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMJYlmX1sNU

PINK NOISE

One study suggested that pink noise dramatically improved deep sleep and memory in older adults, while another concluded pink noise reduces brain waves; thus improving a stable sleep. The frequency of both white noise and pink noise range between the same: 20 Hertz to 20,000 Hertz. Pink noise, however, is deeper than white sound. BROWN NOISE

Brownian noise, also called Brown noise or red noise, is noise with high energy at lower frequencies. There isn’t much evidence to support its benefits, but many a studies have concluded the deepness of this hue can induces sleep and relaxation. The frequency of brown noise is between 5 to 9 Hertz, hence making it deeper than pink and white noise. Listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqzGzwTY-6w

GREY NOISE

A variation of white and pink sound, gray noise isn’t as often used in audio as the other sounds. However, gray noise has been associated good for listening at low levels and masking unwanted sounds in the environment. It helps induce focus. Listen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCnCMHNyny8

BINAURAL BEATS

Considered auditory illusions, binaural beats are two different beats you hear in each ear, but over time your brain jumps the difference and hear the two tones as just one. Binaural beats to work shall have frequencies less than 1000 Hz. These have been associated with dozens of health benefits such as: reduced anxiety, increased focus and concentration, manifest positive moods, and promote creativity and sleep.
