Do you constantly find yourself forgetting names in the middle of conversations, struggling to find things you’ve kept, and having a hard time focusing on thoughts? Well, it is quite possible that your consciousness is clouded either due to lack of rest or building up stress!

Symptoms that show mental fatigue, headaches, fumbling in the middle of daily conversations, or even managing too many things at once are all ways of your body, signalling brain fog!
If you feel like your brain is a jumble, your mind is overwhelmed and you struggle with focusing on things, then fret not! it is possible that you are experiencing brain fog. While it is normal among young adults it should definitely not be ignored. So, what’s the catalyst that triggers this mental cloudiness?

It goes without saying that lack of sleep, poor nutritional habits, and a pile load of stress are major factors in this brain drain. Just as your phone tends to slow down and lag if you have too many apps open, our brain also tends to ‘lag’ if there are too many things that require our attention and focus at the same time.
Moreover, the lifestyle that we all have adopted, requires us to indulge in hype-productivity and multitasking, which interferes with our sleep cycle. Staying up late for crazy hours scrolling social media, studying, or completing pending tasks can take a serious toll on the functioning of your brain and give you mental jet lag.

Another culprit? Social media and Screen time. Spending hours in front of the screen intercepts our ability to memorize things and focus on them. For a break from work hours, we usually pick up our smartphones, which are already bombarded with calls, alerts, and texts from friends and family and so, our brain never really gets a break and is hooked on a constant cycle of thoughts, news, and anticipations. Spending some time away from your mobile phones can make a huge difference.

Poor eating habits can also cause your brain to feel hazy. Consuming too many processed and junk foods can deprive you of the required nutrition, which causes you to slow down. Be mindful of your sugar intake, as excessive sugar, shoots up the glucose level causing mental confusion and irritability and low glucose content can, on the other hand, lead to brain fog and extreme mood swings. Furthermore, you need to make sure your body is packed with all the required vitamins and minerals like B-12, Iron, Omega 3, Vitamin D, and more.
If you do not give your brain a much-needed mental break, burnout is inevitable! If you feel like your lifestyle sounds a lot like we mentioned above, it is time to reassess it and make amends!
Focus on healthy eating
By healthy eating we don’t just mean, avoiding junk food! Healthy eating means nourishing your body with all the essential dietary requirements and switching to greens!
Keep down your device
Unplug, Unplug and Unplug! Do not pick up your smartphone to take a break from your mundane work. Go out for a short walk, catch up with your friends, read books, indulge in recreational activities, or pick up a hobby.
No late nights
Limit your screen time and do not keep any extra work for late nights. Also, reduce your caffeine intake and cozy up in your bed early to wake up fresh and active the next day.

Get some physical activity
Exercise is not just for your physical self but plays an important role in keeping you mentally fit. You do not need to rush to the gym and lift heavy weights to keep you going. A short walk, a quick yoga session or simply taking the stairs instead of the lift can turn things around for you.
Do what keeps you happy
Ultimately, the way to a happy and relaxed brain is a happy heart. If you are overworked and under a lot of stress, your brain will be clouded by constant fear and thoughts. But, if you indulge in activities that make you happy, your brain will break free from the cycle of thoughts and steer clear of all the stress!
