The Unsung Hero- Face Oils

Sanchi Sehgal, Founder of Ozone Signature, explains why you should start using face oils.

Beauty and skincare have occupied a larger space in our digital landscape. Even during a quick unintentional, leisure scroll through Instagram while waiting for the elevator, a skincare recommendation or opinion is introduced to us. ‘Use this, don’t use this, the right way of doing things, don’t make these common mistakes etc’.

Let’s talk about one of the most polarising topics – using FACIAL OILS. Here are the reasons why you should start using face oils-

Oil vs Oil

If you have oily skin, you have heard skincare advice suggesting going ‘oil free’. There is a common misconception that if you have oily or acne prone skin, using facial oil will clog your pores, cause acne, or your skin will generally feel uncomfortable. However, the truth is that oil-based serums can be great for all skin types prone to acne and oil.

You ask -‘Why should I add more oil when my skin is oily?’- Well, because a non-comedogenic (non-clogging) oil can strike just the right cocktail of balance to regulate oil production and bring the skin to harmony.

Sesame Oil, with a comedogenic rating of 1 is a game changer for oily skin prone to acne.

Absorption

Absorption is the key difference between an effective and non-effective skin care product (especially serums). An ingredient can be everything your skin needs, but if it is not able to absorb, it cannot do much. Here is where Facial Oils are the unsung heroes-

Our skin is naturally made up of fatty acids, cholesterol, protein, and oil. Therefore, oil is readily accepted by the skin as the skin recognises oil molecules as friendly.

Lightweight oils such as Sesame oil can do wonders for our skin and hair as it is absorbed into the skin almost instantly, carrying all its benefits and active ingredients into the skin to show results.

If you have dry skin, you must often notice your skin getting dryer through-out the day. This is because your water-based moisturiser was sitting superficially and evaporated throughout the day – causing your skin to lose hydration and dry-out. To combat dry-skin and bring the glow back, build your skin’s ability to hold water.

The added benefits

Along with being excellent carriers for active ingredients, using facial oils gives the skin the added benefits of their own properties. Sesame Oil for example, has a balanced ratio of Omega fatty acids and is rich in anti-oxidants. Therefore, facial-oils are extremely beneficial in crucial skincare foundations, such as strengthening the skin’s health and barrier.
