For makeup enthusiasts, leading Bollywood makeup artist Mehak Oberoi hosted the #FestiveShades masterclass, garnering with her eccentric and easy-to-follow advice. Fun-filled and fast-paced, the workshop featured participants learning to create flawless looks for this season and beyond.
Here’s GlobalSpa in colloquy as Mehak unveils the latest in beauty, makeup, and skin essentials:
- What are the basic make up essentials for men and women when on a holiday?
The most basic makeup essential on a holiday would definitely be a good sunscreen with an spf 50! You can also use a sunscreen spray which also works as body makeup. Other essentials on my list would definitely be my Bobbi Brown Skin Long Wear Weightless foundation, lip and cheek tints, a good bronzer and an illuminating balm for a natural glow! Also, do not forget your makeup remover to clean your face after a long day of travelling!
- When travelling, what should your makeup be like so as to look good and also for protection from pollution/sun etc.?
While travelling, you must keep your skin hydrated as it may react to the weather change. Use a good moisturizer, my favorite being the gel moisturizer by Bobbi Brown. Re- apply your sunscreen every two hours to protect any kind of sun burn. Also, carry a handful of products for your hair such as serums and a dry shampoo.
- What is the best way to take care of your skin when on a vacation?
I think travel skincare is quite different from daily skin care. One must really plan and prep the skin according to the place of travel for example if you are travelling to a cold harsh climate, exfoliate your skin beforehand and apply a hydrating mask. While on the trip, no matter how hectic follow your daily skin care routine. Also, apply as less makeup as possible because makeup can settle into pores of the skin if left for longer periods. Remember to remove your makeup and hydrate your skin with a good moisturizer after a long day.
- What are the latest make up trends for this New Year?
The latest makeup trend for this new year would definitely be glass skin finish which you can achieve using an illuminating balm before applying your foundation along with rosy blush, bushy brows and lots of mascara!
- Your make up essentials when you are travelling?
My absolute essentials while I travel include my primer plus skin protect spf 50 from Bobbi Brown, bb cream, illuminating balm from Bobbi Brown, lip and cheek tints, a good bronzer, lash curler and mascara.
- How to choose the best products for your skin type? Some basic rules?
To choose the best products for your skin type it is very necessary to know what your skin type really is. Your skin type is how your skin feels 10-15 minutes after washing your face. If you have an oily skin, use gel based moisturizers and mattifying makeup products. If your skin is dry, use serums and cream based products.
At Home
My skin care regime at home would be dunking my face in a bowl of ice every morning to constrict the capillaries in the face; this reduces puffiness and swelling giving a refreshed look. This is followed by my Bobbi Brown gel moisturizer and spf.
After Party
After a party, no matter how tired I am, I make it a point to clean my face with Bobbi Brown instant long wear makeup remover. After this I wash my face using a face wash and apply a moisturizer and lip balm.

A few apps I use include Pinterest, Beauty Plus and Prequel.
