Tired of heavy rains and moisture ruining your skin? Here are 8 simple ways to steer clear of monsoon skin blues and amp up your skincare regime!
Nothing gets more refreshing than summer having finally transitioned into a full blown rainy season. Time for hot drinks, evening landscapes, and gloomy skin days. Surely, we’ve all had our monsoons turned into a mess with our skin constantly breaking out and much more. The ambient temperature becomes humid and gives rise to these hallmarks of our skin woes:
1) Increased oiliness of skin
2) More breakouts
3) Eczema/Skin allergy
4) Dandruff
5) Fungal skin infections
Here, I’ll lay down some monsoon skincare tips so you can keep enjoying this lovely season without the stress of bad skin:
1) Wash your face 2-3 times a day. All that humidity is going to cause increased sweat and sebum production on your skin.
2) Switch your cream-based moisturizer to a gel-based moisturizer. Keep it light as you are going to be wearing a mask as well which is just more occlusion!
3) PLEASE don’t forget your sunscreen – just because it's cloudy doesn’t mean all that ultraviolet rays aren’t reaching your skin.
4) You can experience increased breakout with the transition in season – get yourself a salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide cleanser.
5) Your scalp could become greasy and sticky which will give rise to dandruff, so keep shampoos containing ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione, and salicylic acid handy.
6) Our skin gets prone to superficial fungal infections due to the dampness. As much as possible, towel dry your body as soon as you’re home and wear loose cotton clothes at night.
7) Apply a dusting powder to your body folds to prevent fungal infections.
8) Eat your antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents like citrus fruits, berries, green tea and fish to prevent free radical damage.
Incorporate these simple tips and tricks and enjoy the refreshing rains with healthy, glowing skin!
