Celebrating the Doyenne: Shamika Haldipurkar

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Shamika Haldipurkar is the Founder and CEO of d’you. It is a skincare startup that simplifies the relationship between science and skincare.

What is your wellness philosophy?

Wellness for me is feeling content. Contentment in everyone’s life can come from different spheres. It could be contentment in your professional life or personal, family life, financial or economical contentment or even social contentment. When you feel that feeling of being content, you’re mentally at peace. And that, for me, is true wellness.

Your success mantra?

I genuinely believe in chasing excellence. When you chase and achieve excellence, success is an automatic by-product. And in the journey towards excellence, an essential component is resilience. Your resilience towards achieving the goal, and not losing sight of the path no matter how hard it gets, is what will ultimately take you to the oasis of excellence.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

To not put all your eggs in one basket. Always have a Plan B, and a Plan C. Hope for the best, but always be prepared for the worst. And always have your blind side covered!

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

There is nothing women cannot do today. If you find anyone in your life telling you otherwise, then turn a deaf ear. Before the world or anyone else can have faith in you / your abilities, YOU need to have unwavering faith in you. And once you put that unwavering faith and mind to accomplishing something, don’t stop until you reach your target. It may not be an easy journey, but then that’s what makes the reward so much more satisfactory. Women need to believe in themselves steadfastly, and take on things, roles, tasks with that steadfast grit and belief, and then there is very little that can stand in their way. Yes, you may say “it’s easier said than done”, but no, it is neither easy to say nor do, and YET it is very much possible to do!

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

That I switched careers in my early thirties, and transitioned into an industry I had zero connections in or know-how of, and single-handedly built a bootstrapped brand that people today respect and want to be a part of. As daunting as it may have seemed when I started out, I believed in the vision that was larger than me, and one step at a time kept building this brand brick by brick (figuratively). Today my biggest pride comes when d’you’s community talks fondly of the brand ethics and its high performing products. That’s what I wanted to build – an ethical brand, a loving community and the BEST products; and while there are miles to go before I sleep, I take a moment to savour the positive impact we’ve had in this short journey so far, and that fills me with immense pride.
