Celebrating the Doyenne: Meena Murthy Kakkar

“For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf. On this International Women’s Day, GlobalSpa recognizes and celebrates the women in the industry as we delve into their success mantra they follow, mistakes that have helped them grow, and of course, their WELLNESS philosophy.

Meena Murthy Kakkar. is the Design Head & Partner at Envisage, an Interior and Architecture firm specializing in Design and Build projects.

What is your wellness philosophy?

I believe that physical wellness comes from mental wellbeing. Stress has become an inevitable part of every person’s life, and it might even be overwhelming at times. However, you can overcome it by having gratitude for all the good things in life and focusing on the good. Surround yourself with sound and supportive people who will keep you mentally balanced and fit.

Your success mantra?

I make sure to give my best to every task I take up. Even if it means pushing myself or the client to attain the best results, along with that, empathizing with the user is something that makes our projects successful. Understanding others and being sensitive towards their needs can take you a long way.

A lesson you learned from making a mistake?

Situations are constantly evolving, and people always change. In a professional atmosphere, one must not blindly trust people and not get emotionally attached to things. As a designer, you will be wholly involved in a project, but unforeseen circumstances will lead to disappointment. Hence, give your best, yet prepare yourself for the worst.

Any piece of advice for all the women out there?

Do not let social conditioning come in your way. Women generally tend to feel guilty and responsible for everything, and they need to go easy on themselves. There are many good people around you to share equal responsibilities and support everything that you do.

What has been your biggest pride as a doyenne?

My most considerable pride is being where I am by overcoming all the challenges that came my way. My parents have supported me in my endeavor and given me the character that I possess, and as a girl being their only child, I am proud to be supporting them and my family whilst managing work.
