Shonali Bedi, founder of Gulnare Skincare has dedicated her studies in Ayurveda, Chinese medicine and ancient Egyptian beauty secrets, whilst constantly experimenting at home. All this culminated into Gulnare Skincare after she decided to bring together her knowledge with a certified organic skincare program in London to put together the perfect skincare formulations. Shonali speaks with GlobalSpa over tete-a-tete and shares her jouney of making of the brand and furture expansions.
Let’s start from the beginning, how did the idea of Gulnare Skincare come about, and when and how was the brand born?
It all started with our maternal grandmother, Gul. She was known for her beauty & flawless skin and also known for the fact that she never used any products that she didn’t make in house! She passed on her secrets to her daughters who then took it forward to us!
From an early age we were encouraged to, wherever possible, always go natural. In short, we have lived a chemical-free life (wherever possible!) and the same applied to our beauty and skincare rituals. While we were busy trying to opt for green, toxin free solutions for our everyday needs, we began to notice how this multibillion-dollar industry was becoming crowded with large players, using misleading marketing tools to promote chemical laden products that are harmful to our body and wanted to make a change. And that’s when Gulnare Skincare was born, in 2015! Our mission here is not just to sell; we are here to tell a story. We are here to spread the growing awareness on the benefits of organic/natural living and help people make the switch. We aspire to be able to educate the masses and convert every user in the market to choose clean beauty products because they work better!
How is Gulnare Skincare different from how it stands out from the other competitive brands?
At Gulnare Skincare we create naturally active, safe, and effective products that are free from synthetic preservatives and toxic chemicals (paraben & sulfate free) that cause harm & toxicity in the body. We believe in creating products that care for the environment as much as they care for you. There are no hidden ingredients and what you see is what you get!
Using high quality, unadulterated ingredients ensures the best quality end product and so a little goes a long way with our formulas. You will need to use a lot lesser to achieve double the results!
We believe that less is more, and we focus on creating a product range that is multipurpose / multi-functional, so we can reduce the number of bottles sitting idle on bathroom shelves. Because we believe Less consumption = Greener living.
What is your plan for further expansion and for further strengthening of the brand Gulnare Skincare?
We are always busy in our test kitchen trying to come up with new formulations for your skin & hair. Currently we are testing a brand-new hair care range (including but not limited to shampoos, conditioners & hair masques), expanding our bath & body range and also looking at launching a brand-new mineral makeup collection so as to provide our customers with a complete range of options for all their beauty, skin & hair care needs.
New Stores
After the success of our flagship store in Shahpur Jat, Delhi, we have recently opened another new outlet in Hi Tech city, Hyderabad and are looking at opening 5 more retail locations in 2019 for our customers to be able to come, test & try before they buy.
Health & Wellness
We are also very excited to be launching Gulnare’s Wellness program and will be tying up with medical centres & hospitals to provide their patients clean alternatives for their skin ailments. We are starting with H.O.P.E Oncology Centre (Hauz Khas) and hope to add many more such to our list in 2019.
