With 2020 marking the 30th anniversary of ASICS’s iconic GEL-LYTE™ III silhouette, ASICS SportStyle celebrated with their all-new GEL-LYTE™ XXX - a sneaker that combines design elements of the GEL LYTE™ III model, originally designed by Shigeyuki Mitsui.

The designer of the GEL-LYTE™ XXX sneaker, Ryota Kitami, has incorporated upper elements from Mitsui’s original model and modernized it with mixed materials and a more contemporary aesthetic.

• The new sneaker has kept the iconic split tongue but has a more streamlined wrap-up construction, which Kitami explains was adopted for increased fitting.
• Another noticeable characteristic is the pronounced heel - a design element that gives a modernized look to the sneaker and is connected to a midsole using FLYTEFOAM™ technology providing soft cushioning and lightweight to the wearer.
• The sneaker utilizes both mesh and synthetic leather on the upper with contrast ASICS Stripes emblazoned across either side and a connected ‘XXX’ on the midsole - beautifully illustrating the connection between the brand’s past and present.
